Cooperation has been extended to investment guides for LDCs, and investment policy reviews have been conducted jointly.

(b) In order to establish accountability, the Investment Management Service should either (i) ensure that the fixed income investment officer acts with greater independence in the management of the portfolio or (ii) consider outsourcing the fixed income portfolio while maintaining the investment officer to monitor the performance of the outsourced portfolio (AS2003 801 02 011)

(e) The new investment officer will be specialized in alternative asset management, the skills for which significantly differ from those for conventional portfolio management.

Portfolio management

39. Of the three forms of private capital flow (loans, FDI and portfolio equity), FDI and portfolio equity investments are more relevant in the present context of African economies.

UNCTAD apos s experience in the area of FDI should also be used to discuss the proposals for a multilateral investment agreement, in cooperation with other international organizations such as WTO and OECD.

In addition, regional organizations promote investment into their region, taking into account the differing levels of development of their member states, and they promote outward investment to other regions.

During his interview, the claimant expressed surprise to see the licence, investment contract and attestation and asserted that it was not his signature on the investment contract.

Utilization of different investment channels

(a) Different types of capital flows (foreign direct investment, portfolio investments, borrowing etc.) have very different degrees of beneficial effects.

To carry out the mission and achieve the Fund's goals and objectives, the Investment Section of the Investment Management Service actively manages portfolios of equity, fixed income, real estate and short term investments, constantly analysing capital markets and investment opportunities.

They invest resources where they can make the most difference.

15. ESCAP is also seeking cooperation with ECO in the implementation of a project on investment promotion for the mining industry in the ECO countries.

(d) Alternative investments offer the opportunity for an enhanced risk return profile for a pension investment portfolio.

There are encouraging signs of growing investor interest in African securities portfolios.

Or the deposits can be investments in D.E. Shaw s funds and the loans can be the complex derivatives that make up D.E. Shaw s portfolio.

Second, the Chinese production mix does not correspond to domestic demand, and investment in long products has outpaced demand growth.

As for an overseas investment, an enterprise shall conclude a contract thereon in written form so as to clarify the rights and interests it may enjoy from this investment and to carry out financial supervision.

I had the opportunity in Paris to remind our colleagues in the OECD that we should not repeat in the investment field the mistake that was made with the negotiations on services.

Investment has to be a different beast.

When it comes to South South investment, the focus should be on small and medium size foreign investors, who often have different needs from those of traditional home countries.

In this regard, UNCTAD was encouraged to offer greater support to the OECD NEPAD Investment Initiative to improve the investment climate in African countries so as to promote both domestic and foreign direct investment.

(b) The split between domestic and overseas investments and the regional allocation within the overseas portfolio and the associated currency decisions

27. There are three main categories of private resource flow loans, foreign direct investment (FDI), and portfolio equity investment.

31. In addition, to enable investors to minimize their risks and to diversify their portfolios, there is a need to widen the investment sphere. This requires assisting the MFIs which are potentially eligible for this kind of investment in making their case vis à vis potential investors.

It has created 200 jobs, 20 per cent of them for women.

34. FAO s cooperation with international industry associations has facilitated trade, technology transfer and investment in developing countries.

3. The Investment Management Service has two in house systems (a) a Portfolio Management System, which was installed in 1993 and (b) the Investment Control and Accounting System, which provides automated accounting for the transaction activities of the investments of the Pension Fund.

A state of the art system will allow the Investment Management Service to rapidly and accurately handle complex investment data and analyse the portfolio risk and its performance.

The Panel notes that the investment contracts, attestations from the Kuwaiti licence holders, supplier statements and estimates from real estate offices provided in support of these claims are virtually identical.

The situation as regards portfolio investments, however, was different.

The two sides agreed on the need to reinvigorate and enrich their economic cooperation through increased reciprocal contractual activity and investments.

Consequently, attracting FDI is not the same thing as building a dynamic investment climate.

The latest figures show that the old model is not working. There are a lot of great investments that you can make. If you are investing in tar sands or shale oil, then you have a portfolio that is crammed with sub prime carbon assets.

The expected return and risk profile of the Fund's portfolio should be based on long term capital market assumptions which reflect forward looking expectations for investment performance over the long term, while taking into account historical relationships among asset classes.

The Centre is also now starting to work with national commercial banks.

Examples of the latter could include provisions aimed at enterprise development, OFDI promotion programmes and outbound investment missions in conjunction with investment promotion authorities.

They receive low wages relative to those working in the organized sector and have insecure employment contracts (if contracts exist at all).
