The enrollment of ethnic pupils is on the rise compared to the year 2000.

At the same time, the attendance of gypsy children is facilitated by the use of a special card of attendance, which enables them to have access to any school, omitting the official procedure of re registration, in cases when their families suddenly move.

Participants called for eliminating school fees and other barriers that limit access to education, especially for those who live in poverty.

In the school year 1992 93, 42 per cent of primary school graduates were admitted to trade schools, 27 per cent to technical secondary schools and 26 per cent to general secondary schools.

The enrolment rate is 98 per cent for men and 96 per cent for women for elementary education, 56.3 per cent for men and 57.5 per cent for women for secondary education, 18.4 per cent for men and 21.3 per cent for women in higher education.

It means that there was an increase of about 3 , compared to 1998, in female enrolment.

Investment in and the development of science and technology are also included in the MDGs.

A significant push to increase primary school enrolments has raised the enrolment of boys to 67 per cent and girls to almost 40 per cent.

In fact, the school enrolment rate is 20.63 per cent for girls and 36.21 per cent for boys. The female illiteracy rate is a staggering 92 per cent.

In Kuwait, there was a high literacy and school enrolment rate for girls and women, who represented more than 50 per cent of primary and secondary school enrolment, and more than 37 per cent of enrolment at the university level.

The rate of annual enrolment in primary and secondary education is very low and not commensurate with the actual population of children, who constitute over half of the population of Sierra Leone.

While a significant campaign to increase primary school enrolment has raised the enrolment of girls to almost 40 per cent, compared to 67 per cent for boys, overall school enrolment among girls remains among the lowest in the world, with less than 10 per cent of girls enrolled in secondary school.

Further opportunities for boosting access were provided by engagement with SWAps.

Secondary education is accessible and available to all, provided that the students meet certain entry criteria.

Dramatic disparities in enrolment between regions and urban and rural areas remain, with girls representing less than 15 per cent of the total enrolment in nine provinces in the east and the south.

With respect to health and nutrition, there is a programme of supplementary care for school children and adolescents designed to improve the health, nutrition and psycho social development of children and adolescents whether or not they attend school.

Primary education enrolment is over 91.5 per cent.

Considerable improvements have also been achieved in secondary enrolment rates.

Nowadays, however, almost half of the new students at higher technical colleges have general university entrance qualifications which also entitle them to take up studies at a university.

522. In the school year 1993 94 out of a total of 607,400 primary school graduates, 239,600 (39.5 per cent) were admitted to trade schools, 31,300 (5.2 per cent) to vocational secondary schools and 140,800 (23.2 per cent) to technical secondary schools and other vocational schools.

Depending on the teaching method, the education system consists of two modalities enrolment and non enrolment.

With regard to access, upper secondary and higher education institutions usually hold selection examinations before accepting pupils into the first year.

Through that programme, the enrolment of pupils in primary schools increased tremendously.
