From China's national conditions, China does not encourage steel exports. On the contrary, it also takes a series of practical measures to control steel exports.

A great' year is a year of premium prices (higher than the US price) for steel in the world steel export market.

In value terms, the share of developing countries in world iron and steel exports (SITC position 67 Iron and steel) increased from 14 per cent in 1985 to 25 per cent in 2002, reflecting an average annual increase in developing country steel exports of 7.9 per cent.

For example, in the case of exports from the Russian Federation, anti dumping procedures had become a serious distortion and obstacle to steel exports.

In 2003, China was the largest net importing country, with net imports of about 35 MtIn 2004, however, increased Chinese production led to a fall in imports by 23.1 per cent, while exports more than doubled from 8.2 Mt. to 20.1 MtSince September 2004, China has been a net exporter of steel.

The same year, the share of imports in Chinese steel use also reached a maximum, at 18.5 per cent.

Thus, steel products as a group were less dynamic than world exports but slightly more dynamic than commodities.

Approximately half of world steel production enters international trade.
