Uneducated women have almost four times as many children as women with university, technical or higher education.

Among the unemployed women, 16 had a higher education, 38 , a general secondary education, and 27 , secondary vocational training.

In the case of level of education, 52.2 per cent of women without any education received no kind of antenatal care, while 98.2 per cent of women with higher education did receive care.

This age rises with the level of education, from 19 for women with no education to 23 for those who have completed the secondary level.

254. Progress in women s education had led to a higher number of women than men enrolled in tertiary education.

Finally, the total demand for PF is significantly associated to the educational level of the women in union from 8 in women without schooling up to 33 in the ones with secondary or higher education.

Among women with higher education, as compared to women with secondary education, there are more those who would continue working even when the financial situation of the family would allow them to remain at home.

Young women under the age of thirty and mainly with higher education more frequently considered it necessary and also found the possibility to go back to work earlier than women over thirty or with secondary education.

In spite of high level educational attainment, women remained marginalized in the labour market.

360. Girls and women were under represented in higher education however, their enrolment has increased in recent years.

Educated women are more challenged in employment than uneducated ones.

This is another indication that more women are now taking up the challenge of tertiary education.

Based on the mother's level of education, the greatest reductions in child mortality were recorded among women with access to secondary education, where the decline was 67 per cent, while for women with no education the reduction was only 26 per cent, over the same period.

With respect to differences of education and place of residence, if the present rates are maintained women with higher education will have two children, and women with no education will have more than five and in rural areas women will have an average of almost two children more than women in urban areas.

Almost a half of the male and female employed population has secondary education a third of urban workers have some level of primary education, and about a fifth (17 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women) have post secondary education (table 11.25).

With regard to the level of education of the unemployed (table 14.21), the women are better educated than the men, showing particularly good figures in secondary and higher education.

Many of the women returnees bring back a better education than is generally available to women in Afghanistan and the experience of an environment with fewer restrictions and greater employment opportunities for women.

It therefore urges countries to ensure the widest and earliest possible access of girls and women to secondary and higher levels of education, as well as to vocational education and technical training.

Educated women have smaller, healthier and better educated families.

This is double the number of children born to women with higher education living in the big towns or the central region of the country (table 12.4).

403. Similarly, the use of modern techniques such as the pill, IUD, foam and condoms is most common among women in urban areas and those with higher educational levels.
