An Internal Security Force includes both a police force and an information gathering department.

We look forward to ISAF's future expansion to the south and east, and we welcome the prospect of ISAF continuing to operate in Afghanistan until our Security Forces are fully able to provide security to our nation.

Security in the ISAF areas of operation

The security situation shows that the assistance of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is still needed.

In the letter, the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan welcomed the continuation of the operation of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) until Afghanistan's security forces could sufficiently provide for the country's security.

(c) ISF records

According to the Multinational Security Transition Command Iraq, over 150,000 security forces within the Ministries of Interior and Defence have been equipped and trained.

International Security Assistance Force

The Multinational Security Transition Command and the Iraqi Ministries of Interior and Defence continue to work closely to recruit, train and equip Iraq's security forces.

The Government of Iraq and the MNF are developing a security plan to set forth the conditions necessary for transfer of security responsibility from the MNF to the ISF.

The immunity from prosecution of the national security forces contained in article 33 of the National Security Forces Act should be repealed.

In its resolution 1510 (2003), the Security Council requested the leadership of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to provide reports on the implementation of its mandate.

Turning to progress in training the Iraqi security forces, the Iraqi Government, working with the Multinational Force, has identified a force structure to meet Iraq's needs for internal and external security.

Security in the International Security Assistance Force area of operations

Key goals for the multinational force are to develop increasingly capable Iraqi security forces and to transfer more and more security responsibilities to them.

The multinational force continues to work with the Iraqi Government to train and equip the Iraqi security forces (ISF).

Currently, five women officers from the Croatian armed forces are serving within the German contingent of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

The Security Council acknowledges the efforts by the Central African defence and security forces to guarantee satisfactory security conditions during the electoral process, and commends the Multinational Force of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (FOMUC), France, the European Union, China and Germany for providing decisive support to them.

As a troop contributing country, Nepal held that arrangements should be made for such countries to assess the security situation of the host country before the deploying forces.

Recalls that the Sierra Leone security forces shall effectively assume full responsibility for security in the country after the withdrawal of UNAMSIL

The Iraqi forces continue to build, to train and to be equipped so that they can take control of all internal security matters and do not have to depend on the multinational forces for their security.

The multinational force, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and security forces, international donors, and national and international non governmental organizations, continues to support a number of reconstruction and assistance activities in order to maintain stability and security.

This multinational force, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), was deployed to Kabul in January 2002, under the lead of the United Kingdom, in accordance with Security Council resolution 1386 (2001) of 20 December 2001.

Military forces of a State means the armed forces of a State which are organized, trained and equipped under its internal law for the primary purpose of national defence or security and persons acting in support of those armed forces who are under their formal command, control and responsibility.

The Security Council acknowledges the efforts by the Central African defence and security forces to guarantee satisfactory security conditions during the electoral process, and commends the Multinational Force of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (FOMUC), France, the European Union, China and Germany for providing decisive support to them.

I welcome the support provided by the Multinational Force to provide security for the United Nations presence in Iraq.

As a contributor to the Multinational Force, the United Kingdom will continue to work in close partnership with the Iraqi Government, assisting its efforts to ensure that Iraqi forces assume full responsibility for security and stability in Iraq as soon as possible.

The Security Council also notes the commendable role played by the Iraqi Security Forces and the Multi National Forces Iraq in providing security to the elections.

The multinational force will continue to transition responsibilities to Iraqi security forces until their capabilities are sufficient to defeat the insurgents and terrorists and to provide security without the force's assistance.

The multinational force also provides assistance in building the capacity of the Iraqi security forces and institutions through recruiting, training, equipping, mentoring and monitoring, and provides security for the United Nations.

Today, many nations participate in Operation Enduring Freedom, and 36 contribute troops to ISAF.
