International navigation and shipping services

We would need to seek the understanding of the international community to help us save our oceans and support fully the Pacific Islands Regional Ocean Policy adopted in 2002.

Qin Shanghai, Dean of the Ocean University of China s International Education College, told reporters that marine science, marine organism, marine geology, aquaculture, and utilization of marine bio resource are the distinctive majors of the school.

Japan, a seafaring nation with a vast exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, is committed to the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea and to the organs established under it, namely, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the International Seabed Authority and the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

It's in NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Division will host eight fellows ITLOS and IMO will each host one.

We welcome the establishment of reserved areas under the authority of the International Seabed Authority in that regard.

2. International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea

Recently, in the international debate on the sustainable management of marine resources and the protection of marine ecosystems, there has been a strong focus on the high seas.

We also wish to take this opportunity to note with pleasure the role and the work of the institutions that have been set up under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea the International Seabed Authority, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea recognizes the responsibility of coastal States for the sustainable management of living resources in their maritime zones.

The Chinese delegation believes that the legal regime set out in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea remains the legal basis for the contemporary international order for the oceans.

The President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea made a statement.

International Year of the Ocean, 26 March 1998

It produced a six part series on law of the sea matters and interviewed both the Deputy Secretary General of the International Sea Bed Authority and the Registrar of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

This includes donations from individuals as well as from institutions and libraries, including from the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

The time has come to bring the rule of law to the high seas. That is the purpose behind the Global Ocean Commission, an independent international body comprising former heads of state, ministers, and business leaders.

And that's what we're trying to preserve when we say, Save the ocean. Heal the ocean.

The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea participated in the Symposium and presented a paper dealing with the international framework for the peaceful conduct of future maritime economic activities, as laid down in UNCLOS.
