There were three plenary meetings, partners' dialogues on urban culture, urban realities, urban governance and urban renaissance, as well as thematic dialogues on urban poor, urban resources, urban sustainability, urban services and urban disasters and reconstruction.

The Forum consisted of dialogues among partners on urban culture, urban realities, urban governance and urban renaissance, as well as thematic discussions on urban poverty, urban resources, urban sustainability, urban services, and urban disasters and reconstruction.

The annual meeting in Granada, Spain, was also the occasion for a special conference, under EFCT auspices, of the mayors and deputy mayors of EFCT cities around Europe.

Your Lord never destroys cities without first sending a messenger in their midst, reciting to them Our revelations. And We never destroy the cities, unless their people are wrongdoers.

Your Lord would not destroy a town until He had sent to its centre a Messenger who would recite to them Our verses. Nor would We destroy any town unless its inhabitants were iniquitous.

And never did thy Lord destroy the townships, till He had raised up in their mother( town) a messenger reciting unto them Our revelations. And never did We destroy the townships unless the folk thereof were evil doers.

Your Lord would not destroy the towns until He had raised an apostle in their mother city to recite to them Our signs. We would never destroy the towns except when their people were wrongdoers.

Nor did your Lord destroy the villages until He had sent a Messenger to its mother village reciting to them Our verses. We never destroyed villages unless their inhabitants were harmdoers.

And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.

Your Lord did not destroy the people of the towns without first sending a Messenger to the mother town who would recite His revelations to them. We did not want to destroy the towns if the people therein were not unjust.

And your Lord never destroyed the towns until He raised in their metropolis an apostle, reciting to them Our communications, and We never destroyed the towns except when their people were unjust.

Your Lord would never destroy a people until He had sent messengers to their capital cities, reciting to them Our revelations. Nor did We destroy a town unless their people became wrongdoers.

Nor was thy Lord the one to destroy a population until He had sent to its centre a messenger, rehearsing to them Our Signs nor are We going to destroy a population except when its members practise iniquity.

Dialogues The second session of the World Urban Forum was organized around four Partners' dialogues focusing on the following topics urban cultures urban realities urban governance and urban renaissance.

The Chinese city evolved as a walled in seat of power centered around a marketplace. Indeed, the two characters that comprise the Chinese word for city (城市) mean castle (城) and market (市) an apt juxtaposition, which endures today in the form of the relationship between collective state led action to build strong markets and private sector competition within and among cities.

The Bank also sponsored regional thematic conferences and seminars dealing with urban land management and urban finance, including the global conference on urban finance held in September 1995 in Washington, D.C. The World Bank also organized the Habitat dialogue on finance and cities in the twenty first century during the Conference.

As a follow up, the Mayor of Gaza participated in the second annual meeting of the Sustainable Cities Programme and the Urban Environment Forum, both held in China in October 1997.

Colombia has continued improving sectoral management and the urban policy, quot Cities and Citizenship quot , focuses on inter ministerial coordination and the implementation of strategies for urban development by local authorities.

In addition to the Partners' dialogues, five thematic dialogues were held focusing on urban poor urban resources urban sustainability urban services and urban disasters and reconstruction.

b. Contribute to create an Open City UNDESA award dedicated to municipalities engaged in the implementation of Agenda 21.

Specific actions in this regard include the establishment of a Secretariat for Urban Policy and the creation of a National Urban Policy Council.
