A number of initiatives have been taken to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions and nitrogen oxygen emissions.

The main source of methane (CH4) emissions was agriculture (35 per cent), followed by waste (32 per cent in 1990, 34 per cent in 1995) and fugitive fuel emissions (29 per cent in 1990, 27 per cent in 1995).

The data confirmed that additional actions were clearly required to curb emissions.

But what we're missing is also some other emissions like black carbon, that is soot.

We wish to reiterate the call for urgent action to arrest the emission of CFC gases, which experts say have already reached dangerous levels.

For example, garbage discharge, something you would think just simply goes away, but the laws regulating ship discharge of garbage actually get weaker the further you are from shore.

Emission right, also known as dumping right , means the right to discharge pollutants. It refers to the right for emitters to discharge pollutants to the environment in line with the law within the quota assigned by the government.

The inventory data presented in the communication also estimate emissions of CO2 and CH4 from wetland drainage at 9,750 Gg, while CO2 emissions from forests and land use change amounted to about 3,400 Gg.

In order to promote the early implementation of a pilot greenhouse gas emissions trading system, UNCTAD and the Earth Council recently launched the Policy Forum on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading.

The Kyoto Protocol has generated new markets for trading carbon emissions, such as the European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
