In 2001 and 2002, a number of evaluations were conducted on sections of the emancipation grant scheme, from the perspective of both grant provider and recipient.

The funds were made available by (a) contributions from member States, (b) a grant from the United Nations, (c) grants in relation to specific projects and (d) income generated by the rental of the premises and facilities of the African Institute.
