In the months to come, the Department hopes to increase the range of official documentation and public information materials available through its home page, making most of them available either at the same time as, or even earlier than, the printed versions.

That included setting up press briefings and interviews with senior officials, arranging for opinion articles and distributing press materials through United Nations information centres.

An observance of World Press Freedom Day, organized by the Department in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Correspondents Association, and the World Press Freedom Committee, was held on 4 May 1998.

The Russian National Commission distributed the Day s UNESCO press release to the media.

The organization is affiliated with DPI.
