Measure the distance between two points

PRARE on ERS 2 provides precise corrections of altimeter measurements.

The Institute is a member of the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) and the European Laser Ranging Service.

And we also use three laser range finders.

The precise range and range rate equipment (PRARE), operational on ERS 2, allows precise orbit calculations to be made and accurate corrections to radar altimeter measurements to be implemented.

Because the distance between the Mars and the earth is larger than that between the Moon and Earth, it needs to overcome a series of more complex technical difficulties before the Mars detection.

Changes in ITRF can be attributed to global and regional crustal movements, local monitoring leads to the detection of seismic events, radar altimeters measure the vertical distance between the instantaneous sea surface as a natural reflector and the satellite in a straight forward manner.
