Partnership within the United Nations system regional coordination meetings

On the basis of their historical relations of strategic partnership and equal and mutually advantageous cooperation,

UNEP, together with partners in Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, has been coordinating the Arab Millennium Ecosystem Sub global Assessment.

Expansion of strategic partnerships

During the Conference itself, the United Nations system was eminently represented both in the proceedings of Committee I, where the Habitat Agenda was finally negotiated, and at Committee II, the quot partners apos forum quot , where partners apos hearings were held.

In the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the UNV programme will cooperate with other United Nations system partners in capacity building to combat poverty, and in reinforcing UNV partnerships with civil society in both the public and private sectors.

This interactive partnership was evident in the design of the Conference, in that Committee II, the quot partners apos committee quot , was specially created for partners apos hearings on, and commitments to, the Habitat Agenda.

Cooperation between the Forum and the Convention, with the involvement of other CPF members, has focused on the relationship between sustainable forest management and ecosystem approach.

The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, supported by UNEP and other partners such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), was carried out over the period 2001 2005, to assess the consequences of ecosystem change for human well being and to establish the scientific basis for actions needed to enhance the conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems and their contributions to human well being.

As called for by resolution 2003 52, humanitarian and human rights partners within the United Nations system also continued to develop their early warning and early action systems to react better to budding crises.
