If a child under the age of 2 becomes sick, the mother is given a social allowance, regardless of whether there is another family member who can look after the sick child. The size of the allowance is reckoned on the basis of the average monthly wage, but is no larger than 10 times the minimum accounting index. At the moment, it is 919 tenge.

Approximately 48 per cent of UNOPS cash disbursements ( 180 million of 375 million project delivery 2004 most likely case) are made via its imprest accounts.

The outrageous economic subsidies granted every year to farmers in industrialized countries are six times greater than the additional 50 billion needed annually to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

Provision for salaries of internationally recruited staff is made on the basis of the 1998 standard cost rates for New York, and local salaries reflect the scale currently applicable in the mission area.

As argued in the report of the United Nations Millennium Project, the appropriate amount of debt reduction should be measured against explicit development objectives, such as those enshrined in the Millennium Development Goals.

The amount of financial means at present assigned for scholarship assistance does not fulfil social needs in this field.
