There are 22 tiers or levels of Government Service.

Unfortunately they remain under represented in high profile posts (scale 14 and higher).

The 1996 1997 post classification exercise to which the representative of Cuba had also referred was linked not to individuals but to the functional requirements of the posts in question.

In this respect, an upward reclassification of one P5 post to the D1 level is proposed.

At national level, relatively few executive positions are held by women (see diagram).

The principal entrance examination for senior bureaucracy is the Central Superior Services Examination.

An upward reclassification of one P5 post to the D1 level is included in the budget proposal.

Women are slightly under represented in the higher ranks of the police force, with 17.6 of the higher ranks, to their 21 in the overall police force.

The situation with regard to gender representation was less encouraging, and women remained significantly underrepresented at the Professional levels and in senior posts.

Special post allowances should be restricted to exceptional circumstances when a staff member at a lower grade was temporarily performing functions at a higher grade pending the filling of the post at its appropriate level.

Previous positions include Senior Inspector and Higher Grade Inspector, Legislation and Policy Division.

For the Senior Civil Service, which is responsible for top level public service appointments, the representation of women is a focus of attention, particularly in the recruitment phase.
