Transport of dangerous goods in Norway is regulated through the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID) respectively.

Indian roads carry 80 per cent of the country's passengers and 60 per cent of its freight traffic.

The highways, which constitute only 2 per cent of the road network, carry 40 per cent of that traffic.

The Protocol provides for the simplification of procedures and requirements for the transit transport of dangerous goods in ASEAN countries, using the Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations and the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Goods by Road.

In assessing the transport sector, the TEAM will have to divide the assessment into the different modes of transport (road, rail, air and sea)in relation to the different forms of transport (bulk, breakbulk, containerised).

Several Parties identified certain trends in the transport sector including the increase in road transport at the expense of both commuter and freight railway use and maritime transport.

To add to these difficulties, European insurance companies normally refused to insure goods bound for Central Asia because the countries therein have not acceded to relevant international conventions, such as the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), 1956.a

International transportation of goods is increasingly being carried out on a door to door basis, involving more than one mode of transportation.

When dangerous goods are transported with other goods (e.g. heavy machinery or crates), all goods shall be securely fixed or packed in the transport units so as to prevent the release of dangerous goods.

From the '30s on, road systems expanded, trucks took the place of railroads, fresh food began to travel more.

In 1999 the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon) adopted regulations concerning the transport of dangerous goods that are partly based on old provisions of the ADR but that are not fully in line with the Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations.

These are supplemented by more specific conventions like the convention regulating inter State road transportation (TRI), the convention relating to inter State road transit of goods (TRIE), the international convention to facilitate the crossing of frontiers for goods by rail (TIF) and TIPAC (Transit inter Etats des pays de l apos Afrique Centrale), which is a customs arrangement to facilitate inter State transit traffic.
