In much of Africa, one of the major causes and consequences of poverty is disease, mainly malaria and HIV AIDS.

Despite the progress made in many fields of international cooperation, the problems of hunger, poverty and such diseases as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis have taken on horrific dimensions and continue to pose major challenges to the international community.
