The Grand Canyon is really simple.

This is at 3,000 feet in Monterey Canyon.

You need to come up the Lincoln Canyon.

And the reason is, many of you went to the Grand Canyon, and you see in the wall of the Grand Canyon, you see these layers.

So you can scratch Lincoln Canyon as an approach.

It's called the Bonanza Adit. It's down in a canyon.

Mars has the Grand Canyon of the solar system, Valles Marineris.

This is an absolute miracle, much harder to explain than the Grand Canyon.

And our partners are Zuma Canyon Orchids of Malibu, California, who are Hispanic.

My family was on a road trip and we were in the Grand Canyon.

This is a climb called the Naked Edge, in El Dorado Canyon, outside of Boulder.

Because I think that the greatest wonder in the world is not the Grand Canyon.

It is like the Grand Canyon on Earth, except a hell of a lot larger.

So just as a curiosity, where did you land when you flew over the Grand Canyon?

Take Turkey s world renowned Kanyon Shopping Center. Its unique undulating architectural design was inspired by the Grand Canyon, hence its homophonous name Kanyon. You feel like you re in the Grand Canyon when walking along the 200 meter footpath in the midsection of Kanyon.

In addition, China has identified another mega dam site on the Brahmaputra at Daduqia, which, like Metog, is to harness the force of a nearly 3,000 meter drop in the river s height as it takes a sharp southerly turn from the Himalayan range into India, forming the world s longest and steepest canyon. The Brahmaputra Canyon twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States holds Asia s greatest untapped water reserves.

I grew up out west in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, like you see here, in the Red Rock Canyon.

We're in Pole Canyon, looking west up the western escarpment of Mount Washington, which is 11,600 feet on top.

It has polar caps. It has an atmosphere somewhat thinner than ours, so it has weather. So, it's very similar to some extent, and you can see some of the features on it, like the Grand Canyon on Mars, or what we call the Grand Canyon on Mars.

We're looking at Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the solar system, superimposed on a map of the United States, 3,000 miles across.

It's just a lot of rock, and then a lot of water and wind, and a lot of time, and you get the Grand Canyon.

Its open platform design offers visitors at every floor a view of the activities held in the canyon , and the scene changes as you take each step.

And my mother bought this book when we were at the Grand Canyon called The Hot Zone. It was all about the outbreak of the Ebola virus.

And then finally, I want to show you some responses that we recorded with the world's first deep sea webcam, which we had installed in Monterey Canyon last year.

Zander's Siq is named after some of you have been to Petra, there's this wonderful slot canyon that leads into Petra called the Siq, and so this is the Siq.

In the northern part of New Zealand, I dove in the blue water, where the water's a little warmer, and photographed animals like this giant sting ray swimming through an underwater canyon.

It's this beautiful world all of its own, surrounded by cliffs, and it's an easy hike to stroll up the canyon bottom, until you get to this barrier, and it actually presents a problem.

That solid wall behind it is a pipe chase a pipe canyon and so it was an opportunity that I seized, because I didn't have to have any protruding ducts or vents or things in this form.

So what you are seeing here are the layers on the wall of that crater, and the Rover is going down now, measuring, you know, the properties and analyzing the rocks as it's going down, you know, that canyon.

This is what's really complicated, that there were people living in places like the Grand Canyon, cooperating with each other, or on the savannahs of Africa, or on the frozen shores of Alaska, and then some of these villages grew into the mighty cities of Babylon, and Rome, and Tenochtitlan.

Tank washing gave rise to a huge number of small spills, and tanker accidents such as those involving the Torrey Canyon, Exxon Valdez, Metula, and St. Peter resulted in huge, concentrated spills. So this project was punctuated by a really amazing event, which was held in the desert outside Albuquerque in New Mexico at the Jemez Pueblo, where for three consecutive nights, the contents of the capsule were projected onto the sides of the ancient Red Rock Canyon walls, which stand about 200 feet tall. There was this big sort of bumpy looking virus on the cover, and I just wanted to read it. I picked up that book, and as we drove from the edge of the Grand Canyon to Big Sur, and to, actually, here where we are today, in Monterey, I read that book, and from when I was reading that book, I knew that I wanted to have a life in medicine.

China has already built six mega dams on the Mekong the lifeblood for continental Southeast Asia with its latest addition being the 254 meter high Nuozhadu Dam, whose gargantuan reservoir is designed to hold nearly 22 billion cubic meters of water. The current dam building plans threaten the Salween River s Grand Canyon a UNESCO World Heritage site and the pristine, environmentally sensitive areas through which the Brahmaputra and the Mekong flow.

And they gave me enough money to do it right, which has involved developing the world's first deep sea webcam which has been installed in the Monterey Canyon for the past year and now, more recently, a modular form of this system, a much more mobile form that's a lot easier to launch and recover, that I hope can be used on Sylvia's hope spots to help explore and protect these areas, and, for me, learn more about the bioluminescence in these hope spots.
