In Argentina, as in many Latin American countries, presidents have so much power that other governmental institutions authority fades, eradicating the boundaries between the executive and the state. If the only limits on Cristina are her own, Argentina will not weather the coming storm well.

In fact, the move will not resolve the country s energy problems in the absence of enormous inflows of investment to the sector.

In fact, the move will not resolve the country s energy problems in the absence of enormous inflows of investment to the sector.

A 2009 law that aimed to diversify media ownership has been used to put pressure on media outlets that are critical of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Fernández s supporters in Congress recently attempted to limit the judiciary s independence and pack the upper echelons of the court system, but the country s Supreme Court struck down their law as unconstitutional.

And presidents like Brazil s Dilma Rousseff, Mexico s Enrique Peña Nieto, and Argentina s Cristina Fernández de Kirchner are sticking to their orthodox, conservative, and anachronistic stances, unwilling to budge until public opinion leaves them no other choice. Yet something is stirring in the hemisphere as its marijuana moments arrive with greater frequency, can a milestone be far off?

The Government also informed the Special Rapporteur, with regard to the abduction of and threats received by Vilma Cristina González, that the National Police Department of Criminal Investigation had been ordered to provide protection for the victim and that an investigation was being carried out in order to shed light on these incidents (25 March 1996).

Fernández s melodramatic speeches are a transparent attempt to elevate her late husband to saintly status, just as Perón elevated his wife, Evita, to sainthood.
