Accordingly, such a meeting was convened by the secretariat from 25 to 27 May 2005 in Kingston, Jamaica.

Since my statement to the Assembly at the fifty ninth session, the International Seabed Authority has held its eleventh session in Kingston.

We believe it important that the Authority consider the possibility of changing the dates of its meetings in order to improve attendance in Kingston.

In February 2002, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) received a complaint from a stevedoring company (SSL Ltd) against another stevedoring company (KWL LTD), which owns berths in Port Kingston.

In the framework of the CBTF, several activities have been carried out geared towards promoting production and export of developing country OA products, including workshops in Brussels (2002) and Kingston, Jamaica (2003).

To assist the Commission in preparing guidelines for use by potential contractors in the establishment of environmental baselines and an associated monitoring programme, the Authority convened its seventh workshop in Kingston, Jamaica, in September 2004.

Dr. Ernest Madu runs the Heart Institute of the Caribbean in Kingston, Jamaica, where he proves that with careful design, smart technical choices, and a true desire to serve it's possible to offer world class healthcare in the developing world.

In that context, he reaffirmed the importance of the United Nations information centre in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and the need to establish an enhanced information component in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Kingston, Jamaica.

Given that KWL handled all the non containerized cargo in the port of Kingston, the existence of high barriers to entry (due to a lack of suitable port locations) and the absence of countervailing buyer power, KWL was considered to be a dominant player in the market for the supply of access to cargo freight infrastructure.

Notes the ongoing elaboration of recommendations for the guidance of contractors to ensure the effective protection of the marine environment from harmful effects that may arise from activities in the Area, and notes that the Council of the Authority will continue to consider issues relating to regulations for prospecting and exploration for polymetallic sulphides and cobalt rich crusts in the Area at the next session of the Authority, to be held in Kingston from 5 to 16 August 2002

It's a problem across the developing world, and in middle income countries too. In Jamaica, for example look at Jamaican members of Parliament, you meet them, and they're often people who are Rhodes Scholars, who've studied at Harvard or at Princeton, and yet, you go down to downtown Kingston, and you are looking at one of the most depressing sites that you can see in any middle income country in the world a dismal, depressing landscape of burnt and half abandoned buildings.
