Mehmet Kambur (village headman), Hüseyin Polat, Mustafa Doĝaner, Güzel Polat, Ibrahim Erdoĝan, Hasan Erdoĝan, Riza Ateş and Bayram Güngöz were among a number of persons detained on 25 January 1996 by gendarmes in Güvenkaya village.

It was established through medical reports of the Beyoglu branch of the Forensic Medicine Institute that Sonül Beydilli, Zeynep Baran, Metin Karabulut, Mehdi Perinçek and Mehmet Pulgu were not subjected to torture or ill treatment during detention.

96. It has been reported that on 29 October 1994, after setting upon four Turks, four French youths, accompanied by 15 other neo Nazis, attacked a restaurant belonging to Mr. Mehmet Bashoroz, a Turkish resident of Obernai (Alsace).

In one of the few examples of current State practice, the Greek High Administrative Court indirectly considered the effect of armed conflict on treaties on 5 October 2000 in the case Appeal Against the Appointment of the Religious Muslim Leader in the Region of Xanthi (Mufti) Mr. Mehmet Emin Sinicoglou.

The following candidates were elected after the first ballot as members of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families to serve from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2009 Mr. Mehmet Sevim (Turkey), Ms. Anamaría Dieguez Arévalo (Guatemala), Mr. Prasad Kariyawasam (Sri Lanka), Mr. José Serrano Brillantes (Philippines) and Mr. Azad Taghizade (Azerbaijan).

NICOSIA It is tempting to see the results of the recent parliamentary elections in northern Cyprus as a blow for the peace process. Voters in the Turkish Cypriot north rejected the party of their leader, Mehmet Ali Talat, who has been meeting almost weekly for eight months with his Greek Cypriot counterpart, Demetris Christofias, to work out the terms of a settlement to reunify the island.

(v) Others Ali Haydar Efe, who reportedly died of respiratory and circulatory failure in Numue Hospital in Ankara, after having been detained Abdullah Baslun who reportedly died in Batman State Hospital after having been detained by soldiers from the Batman Gendarmerie headquarters Mehmet Senyigit, found dead in the morgue of Diyarbakir State Hospital after having been reportedly detained by four plainclothed police officers in the Dicle district of Diyarbakir.

With respect to Mehmet Sen (case transmitted on 15 September 1994) a member of the since banned Democracy Party (DEP) reportedly detained by police officers in Nizip, Gaziantep on 26 March 1994 and later discovered murdered, a witness who saw his body had reportedly stated that there were clear marks of torture, that the right side of his head had been crushed, an eye had been gouged out, and his neck, arms and a finger had been broken.
