At its sixtieth session, the General Assembly will need to fill the vacancies that will arise upon the expiry of the terms of office of Mr. Logutov, Mr. Meijerman, Mr. Park, Mr. Sardinha Pinto, Mr. Sessi and Mr. Wu.

Mr. Pinto Leite (International Platform of Jurists for East Timor) recalled that like in East Timor, a free and fair referendum was the only real solution or legal option for Western Sahara, yet halfway through the Second International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism, Morocco continued to defy international law.

In that connection, he drew attention to document A C.5 59 6 Add.2, in which the Secretary General informed the General Assembly that the Government of Brazil had nominated Mr. Henrique da Silveira Sardinha Pinto to fill the unexpired portion of the term of office of Mr. Gurgel de Alencar.

If there was no objection, he would take it that the Committee wished to recommend that the General Assembly should appoint Mr. Henrique da Silveira Sardinha Pinto as a member of the Committee on Contributions, for a term beginning on the date of his appointment by the General Assembly and expiring on 31 December 2005.
