4. At the 1493rd meeting, on 7 July 1998, with the consent of the Special Committee, Mr. Ronald Rivera, on behalf of the Guam Commission on Decolonization, made a statement (see A AC.109 SR.1493).

On the contrary, they have continued to retain a great deal of influence, not only for their readers, but also for the broader public.

Mr. Koppel (Partido Socialista de los Trabajadores (Socialist Workers Party)) called for the release of Carlos Alberto Torres, Haydee Beltrán and Oscar López Rivera, independence fighters who had been imprisoned in the United States for a quarter of a century, and of José Perez González and José Velez Acosta, who remained in jail for opposing the United States presence in Vieques.
