Edna Santos Roland proposed a list of practical measures aimed at improving the situation of people of African descent.

A key counterpart within the Transition Government of Haiti has been Roland Pierre, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation of Haiti, whom the Group met twice in New York as well as during its visit to Haiti.

Ms. Roland provided information about the meeting of the caucus of Afro parliamentarians from the Latin America and Caribbean region in San José, Costa Rica, which aimed at exploring the possibility of creating a black congress of the Americas.

Ms. Edna Maria Santos Roland, a member of the Group of independent eminent experts, submitted that the Millennium Declaration was specially focused on policies and measures to enhance the development indicators of the general population of a given country and, at the global level, to reduce the inequalities between developed countries and developing countries and economies in transition.
