ISTANBUL In the last four weeks, I have traveled to Sofia, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, London, Milan, Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Istanbul, and throughout the United States. As a result, the myriad challenges facing the global economy were never far away.

A regular meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs was held in New York on 23 September and 7 December 2004 in Sofia on the margin of the UN General Assembly and OSCE Ministerial Meeting respectively, where the issue of counter terrorism was core one in the agenda.

The political commitments framework is comprised by decisions taken by OSCE bodies, such as the Plan of Action (Bucharest 2001) and the Charter on Preventing and Combating Terrorism (Porto 2002), as well as various specific decisions adopted by Ministerial Meetings in Maastricht (2003) and Sofia (2004) and by the OSCE Permanent Council and Forum for Security Co operation.

In January 2005, on the occasion of the State visit to Morocco by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain, the aforesaid agreements were reaffirmed at the highest level and the state of progress of the project studies was presented to the monarchs at an audience held for that purpose by King Mohamed VI.

More specifically, concerning the treatment of abused children, the Abuse and Neglect of Children Center of the Institute of Children's Health operates in the Agia Sofia Hospital, while the Ministry of Health provides specialized services and accommodation for abused children in Chidren Care Centres and in the Pendeli Convalescent Home, following a Public Prosecutor's order, concerning taking care of abused children.

On 17 February 2003 the CODEXTER was set up by the Committee of Ministers to coordinate and supervise the Council of Europe's contribution to the fight against terrorism in the legal field and, in particular, the implementation of the priority activities endorsed by the Committee of Ministers in November 2002, as well as of the other priority areas identified by the 25th Conference of the European Ministers of Justice (Sofia, 9 10 October 2003).
