Mr. Džundev (the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) My delegation joined the consensus on draft resolution A 52 L.44 Rev.1, just adopted by the General Assembly, which was ably introduced this morning by the representative of Ukraine. We consider this decision by the General Assembly to be very important.

The whole of the Saudi society without exception has successfully stood firm against these miscreants and has demonstrated resolute determination to strongly and ably defeat their purpose in conformity with the directives and affirmations of His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Crown Prince, Deputy Premier, and Commander of the National Guard.

Sixteen years in office is quite a long period, and for Mr. Hans Blix, who has been closely associated with the most difficult problems that the international community has faced during the last decade, those years have been very productive. Mr. Blix has ably led the Agency through all those years with integrity and wisdom. We thank him for his achievements, which have become our common asset.

There is still a strong bias in many countries in favour of placing the central responsibility of patient care on physicians even though experience shows that nurses and other health workers can ably provide many of the same services just as well. More effort is needed to monitor the productivity of the health labour force, the quality of services offered and the cost.

However, the report does not reflect to any significant extent the comments and views of the membership of this Organization, including NAM, on the reports of the High level Panel and the Millennium Project, despite the rich and stimulating debate during the informal meetings of the plenary of the General Assembly in January and February 2005, which you, Sir, have very ably summarized and presented to the Secretary General.

The so called amendment contained in document A 52 L.59 is the complete antithesis of the draft resolution so ably introduced by the representative of Indonesia. Our draft resolution seeks to confer upon Palestine new rights and privileges of participation, while this amendment actually reaffirms the existing rights of Palestine as an observer. In other words, it seeks to perpetuate the status quo of the Palestine delegation.

Mr. James (Dominica) It is my distinct honour and privilege to address this body once again. In doing so, may I take the opportunity to offer, on behalf of the Commonwealth of Dominica, sincere congratulations to you, Sir, on your assumption of the presidency of the General Assembly at its fifty third session. My thanks are also extended to Ambassador Udovenko, who so ably guided the fifty second session.

Ukraine has the honour of co sponsoring the draft resolution contained in document A 52 L.26, so ably introduced by the representative of New Zealand. Ukraine is also co sponsoring the draft resolution A 52 L.29 on the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks.

I would take this opportunity, at the outset, to congratulate the President and his colleagues in the Bureau on their election to their high offices. I know that in the President apos s capable hands the work of the Assembly will be very ably directed. I also join other delegations in paying tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Razali Ismail, and his colleagues on the outgoing Bureau, for steering the work of the Assembly with remarkable success during its fifty first session.

We welcome this and urge the various actors to spare no effort in lending support to the continent as it strives towards economic betterment. The effective implementation of the United Nations New Agenda for the Development of Africa in the 1990s (UN NADAF) and the United Nations System wide Special Initiative on Africa will be a step in the right direction. In conclusion, I should like to second the delegation of Zimbabwe, which so ably introduced the draft resolution before us.
