He studies the brain using MRI, and he claims that this is the most beautiful brain that he has ever scanned.

MRI is using magnetic fields and radio frequencies to scan the brain, or any part of the body.

So a second line of inquiry that we use to track changes in the adolescent brain is using functional MRI to look at changes in brain activity across age.

What I and my colleagues did was put 32 people, who were madly in love, into a functional MRI brain scanner.

Sampling cerebrospinal fluid via a lumbar puncture (or spinal tap ) can predict which people with mild cognitive impairment will progress to dementia with over 80 accuracy, but this still means a misdiagnosis for one in five patients. PET scans are slightly less accurate, while routine MRI brain scans can reveal with perhaps only 70 accuracy subtle abnormalities in people with mild cognitive impairment.
