In terms of trends, there had been a decline in methyl bromide consumption from 1991 to the present.

Methyl bromide in developing countries had been reduced from a peak of 18,140 in 1998 to 11,858 in 2003, but several external factors, including the large critical use requests, continued promotion of methyl bromide production and global oversupply leading to lower prices, had threatened continued reduction.
