You know, calculus is wonderful.

No calculus, I'll cut out that.

Calculus is also a mathematics of curves.

I swallowed my pride, and I learned calculus.

And at top of that pyramid, it's calculus.

So calculus has traditionally been taught very late.

Last year I was a TA for calculus.

This is actually from one of the original calculus videos.

When I was a kid, I was a calculus whiz.

So, even a straight line, defined with calculus, is a curve.

I mean, don't get me wrong. Calculus is an important subject.

The laws of nature are written in the language of calculus.

The best example of this would probably be the Gothic, and the Gothic was invented after the invention of calculus, although the Gothic architects weren't really using calculus to define their forms.

That's because we're all using calculus tools for manufacturing and for design.

If Isaac Newton had done YouTube videos on calculus, I wouldn't have to.

And he goes, Ahh, okay okay, eehto, World History, ehh, Calculus, Traditional Japanese. And so on.

To just talk for a minute about the digital mediums that we're using now and how they integrate calculus the fact that they're calculus based means that we don't have to think about dimension in terms of ideal units or discreet elements.

Much later, Robert Maillart's bridges, which optimize structural form with a calculus curvature almost like a parabola.

With calculus, the whole idea of subdivision is more complex, because the whole and the parts are one continuous series.

It's too early in the morning for a lecture on calculus, so I brought some images to just describe how that works.

Now, the only way we could design that, or possibly construct it, is by using a calculus based definition of the form.

And every student who studies math, science, engineering, economics, they should definitely learn calculus by the end of their freshman year of college.

But I'm here to say, as a professor of mathematics, that very few people actually use calculus in a conscious, meaningful way, in their day to day lives.

I say here that Newton did a lot of things that year gravity, the laws of motion, the calculus, white light composed of all the colors of the rainbow.

I finally got around to calculus as a 32 year old tenured professor at Harvard, where I sat uncomfortably in classes with undergraduate students, little more than half my age.

In the classic calculus that a win for one side is a loss for the other, satisfying an Israeli interest may strike some Palestinians as a loss, judging from their efforts to jeopardize it.

And then, of course, in the natural course of things, they will expand back.

That s what it is, isn t it? Of course it is, of course it is.

And of course, everybody got it. Everybody went, Yes, of course, you're absolutely right.
