Cocaine and crack cocaine trail the list of abused substances, but their demand is likely to increase.

The relatively greater expansion of cocaine trafficking in South Africa compared with that of heroin can be explained in part by the growing domestic abuse of cocaine and crack cocaine.

Cocaine consumption seems to be stabilizing.

In Mexico, the prevalence of cocaine abuse is on the increase cocaine accounts for the majority of treatment admissions, and the number of people attending treatment facilities for cocaine abuse is rising.

Because crack cocaine was an unbelievable innovation.

So what was it about crack cocaine?

Issue 3. The cocaine threat in Europe

There were no reports of cocaine abuse in south and central Asia, but seizures of cocaine have been reported in India.

Estimated global cocaine manufacture and seizures are shown in figure 6 for the period from 1980 to 1994. (For potential cocaine manufacture, coca leaf production estimates were converted to cocaine equivalent to facilitate comparison with seizures.)

In North America, cocaine, especially crack cocaine, continues to be a major problem in most areas, despite some stabilization in recent years.

In the same period, however, estimated cocaine manufacture tripled, and so the amount of cocaine that may have reached consumers almost doubled.

Most coca is refined into cocaine, although in Bolivia and Peru a small portion of coca is used for traditional purposes unrelated to cocaine.

Early in 1997, a cocaine laboratory with a capacity to manufacture some 300 tonnes of cocaine hydrochloride annually nearly one third of the total estimated illicit cocaine manufactured in South America was discovered and dismantled and the chemicals were seized.

Cocaine is a stimulant to the central nervous system.

The practice of cocaine injection was reported in Argentina.

In the United States, the average age at admission was 37 years for those who primarily smoked cocaine and 34 years for non smokers of cocaine.

It seems rational to expect that, in time, the economic feasibility of cocaine trafficking will decline and that cocaine trafficking itself will decline along with it.

On the other hand, amphetamines like cocaine are dopamine agonists.

Heroin, cocaine, women being trafficked into prostitution and precious minerals.

We worry about cocaine coming from the Andean Ridge north.

Cocaine abuse is reported in all subregions of the continent.

Because you could smoke crack cocaine you can't smoke powdered cocaine and smoking is a much more efficient mechanism at delivering a high than is snorting it.
