The Collaborative Partnership on Forests Framework 2005 (E CN.18 2005 INF 1) provides an assessment of the progress of the Partnership since its inception in 2001, highlighting joint initiatives of Partnership members and describing other collaborative activities undertaken to promote sustainable forest management worldwide.

Ministerial dialogue with heads of organizations and members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests

(s) Support the efforts of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests to develop and implement joint initiatives.

(e) Encourage the heads of international organizations to continue supporting the Collaborative Partnership on Forests to help facilitate the implementation of Forum decisions and to make greater use of the Partnership in carrying out joint and collaborative programmes, within their existing mandates

(b) A collaborative framework on forests with a declaration of commitment on sustainable forest management, means of implementation, a strengthened reporting mechanism and a stronger secretariat and the Collaborative Partnership on Forests

Specific criterion (iii) The extent to which the Collaborative Partnership on Forests members have responded to the guidance of the Forum

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests Framework 2005 (E CN.18 2005 INF 1) provides detailed information on actions taken by members of the Partnership in support of the implementation of the plan of action.

A number of forest related events and workshops were held in conjunction with the Congress by members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

The need for more streamlining and harmonization of forest related reporting is being addressed by a task force of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

It is further expected that other member organizations of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests might be in a position to second staff to the secretariat.

This Partnership, launched in March 2003, currently comprises more than 20 partners and sponsors, including nine members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, several Governments and governmental agencies, non governmental organizations and a growing number of companies.

(ii) Training courses, seminars and workshops training courses, seminars and or workshops in selected areas of sustainable forest management and for furthering coordinated and collaborative efforts in support of sustainable forests management, including those of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and major groups.

The Forum will have before it for its consideration the note by the Secretariat on this agenda item and the Collaborative Partnership on Forests Framework 2005.

The multi year programme of work includes two high level ministerial segments and policy dialogues with the heads of member organizations of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

Collaborative efforts are underway between the African Union and ECA, under the guidelines of the New Partnership for Africa's Development, to provide a framework for such rationalization.

They also make a number of other suggestions for strengthening, including an enhanced role for the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, linking the arrangement to FAO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) (and relocating the secretariat), extending the Bureau by including representatives of regional processes and allowing participation from the secretariat of the regional processes on forests in the work of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

Specific criterion (i) The extent to which countries, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and other actors have made progress in implementing the relevant IPF IFF proposals for action

There has been a lot of competition in the past, and we need to develop a new model of partnership, truly collaborative, where we are looking for complementing, not substituting.

CPF members note that the Partnership has embarked on a number of joint initiatives and other collaborative activities such activities have also helped to foster synergies and trust among CPF members.

(f) Recognizing the role played by civil society, the private sector, intergovernmental organizations, including members of the collaborative partnership on forests, and major stakeholder groups in promoting sustainable forest management worldwide.

(g) Request the Forum secretariat to continue actively participating in and supporting the Collaborative Partnership on Forests as well as enhancing cooperation with relevant international and regional partnerships, processes and bodies.

This project addresses transit transport collaborative solutions as part of the special needs of landlocked countries, one of the targets of Millennium Development Goal 8 (Develop a global partnership for development).

3. Invites, in particular, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as the Chair of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, within its mandate, to support the implementation of the Year

For the preparatory work of these topical issues, such as developing guidelines, an ad hoc expert group, a scientific panel or a task force of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests could be established.

Specific criterion (iv) The extent to which Collaborative Partnership on Forests members have worked to strengthen countries' abilities to monitor, assess and report progress in the implementation of IPF IFF proposals for action

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests has been instrumental in providing substantive support to the work of the Forum, and enhancing collaboration, cooperation and coordination this has included joint forest related initiatives among its members.

It is essential to continue enhancing synergies among partners, particularly among the members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, and to improve cooperation and policy and programme coordination in and outside the forest sector.

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests, as an international partnership, has been instrumental in assisting countries in the implementation of the proposals for action in areas including capacity building for the implementation of national forest programmes forest related scientific research monitoring, assessment and reporting and the development of criteria and indicators.

(r) As members of the governing bodies of the organizations that form the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, help ensure that the forest related priorities and programmes of members of the Partnership are integrated and mutually supportive, consistent with their mandates, taking into account relevant policy recommendations of the United Nations Forum on Forests

Some participants considered that a trust fund could also be considered, but any approach adopted should be independent from UN headquarters in order to be accessible to the members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).

The second is collaborative lifestyles.

The collaborative effort was fabulous.

The initiatives exemplify the collaborative and constructive outlook of member States, and international and regional organizations, including Partnership members, as well as civil society representatives, in achieving sustainable forest management and advancing the work of the Forum.

I call this groundswell collaborative consumption.

2. Invites members of the governing bodies of the member organizations of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests to support the implementation of the non legally binding instrument on all types of forests, consistent with the mandates of those organizations, and, to that end, invites the United Nations Forum on Forests to provide guidance to the Partnership

The Forum adopted resolutions based on lessons learned with recommended actions directed at member States, members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, other international organizations and the donor community for further strengthening the implementation of the proposals for action.

The development of the manuals will be led by the World Bank, WHO, the Global Road Safety Partnership and the Féderation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Foundation for the Automobile and Society but will also incorporate expertise from the broad collaborative group.
