The Security Council reiterates the importance of ensuring that sexual exploitation and abuse are properly investigated and appropriately punished.

In its resolution 1325 (2000), the Security Council highlighted the impact of conflict on girls, particularly in relation to sexual exploitation.

The Security Council condemns, in the strongest terms, all acts of sexual abuse and exploitation committed by United Nations peacekeeping personnel.

On 9 February, the Secretary General sent a letter to the President of the Security Council about the response to allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse in the Congo, with the request to bring the information to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
