For some years now we have been witnessing an exponential increase in the number of cases entrusted to the Court and, correspondingly, an unprecedented increase in its activities.

The exponential increase in international trade had led to a corresponding increase in commercial disputes and, in that connection, the importance of arbitration as a means of resolving international commercial disputes could not be overemphasized.

And the tsunami of problems that we feel we're facing in terms of sustainability questions are actually a reflection of the exponential increase in urbanization across the planet.

Information technology grows in an exponential manner.

And that's exponential growth through five different paradigms.

But this has progressed at an exponential pace.

I put 49 famous computers on this logarithmic graph by the way, a straight line on a logarithmic graph is exponential growth that's another exponential.

And that's a very profound explosion of exponential growth.

The universe then underwent an exponential expansion called inflation.

It's pretty remarkable how smooth an exponential process that is.

There is a big difference between linear and exponential growth.

Maybe it kind of didn't stay on this exponential progression.

And you can see here that there's an exponential Great Divergence.

The Great Depression made not a dent in this exponential progression.

So let's see now how exponential technologies are taking health care.

There are remarkably smooth exponential curves that govern price performance, capacity, bandwidth.

My main message is that progress in technology is exponential, not linear.

But the pace of exponential growth is really what describes information technologies.

At least the exponential growth of information technology capability will continue unabated.

What I'd like to talk about today is understanding these exponential technologies.

But I think, as integration of exponential technologies, this is the example.

Hey, sir, the function on the blackboard is not exponential, but trigonometric.

There has been an exponential growth in secondary, higher and university education.

Setup, step, now we get exponential growth and we get a leveling off.

The exponential growth of computing started decades before Gordon Moore was even born.

The death isn't happening since we turned it off, we should have exponential growth.

And Moore's Law was not the first paradigm to bring exponential growth to computing.

Now my favorite technology, example of exponential technology, we all have in our pocket.

Miniaturization we're shrinking the size of technology at an exponential rate, both wired and wireless.

So bird counts are indicating that we might be seeing up to exponential growth in their numbers.

This is at an early stage, but you can show with the exponential growth of the amount of information about the brain and the exponential improvement in the resolution of brain scanning, we will succeed in reverse engineering the human brain by the 2020s.

But it's the nature of exponential growth that once it reaches the knee of the curve, it explodes.

Magnetic data storage that's not Moore's Law, it's shrinking magnetic spots, different engineers, different companies, same exponential process.

So they engineered these cells so that when they're growing in the exponential phase, they would smell like wintergreen.

Such changes include major political realignments, an unprecedented evolution in socio economic relations, and exponential advancement in technological capacities.

Every time one paradigm ran out of steam, another paradigm came out of left field to continue the exponential growth.
