The Meeting noted that the Division of Early Warning and Assessment of UNEP had a Scientific Assessment Branch that produced global, regional and thematic assessments and reports, such as the Global Environment Outlook, as well as sections dealing with ecosystems, the global environment outlook and capacity building and partnership.

It reviews progress on global and sub global assessments currently under way, such as the Global Environment Outlook and the Global Marine Assessment, for which continuing support from Governments is necessary.

By its decision 22 1 I B of 7 February 2003, the Governing Council requested the Executive Director to prepare the comprehensive Global Environment Outlook report every five years, with the next report for 2007.

The Global Environment Outlook Year Book 2006 is before the Council Forum in document UNEP GCSS IX INF 2, while the major findings of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the Global International Waters Assessment are provided in documents UNEP GCSS.IX INF 8 and UNEP GCSS.IX INF 9, respectively.

In response to this initiative, UNEP, in collaboration with a number of institutional and individual experts, is preparing a Global Environment Outlook for Deserts (GEO for Deserts), as one of the series of thematic GEO reports.

The Africa Environment Outlook for Youth project was initiated in 2003.

In fact, most professional economists do not seem overly glum about the global economy s prospects. Second, with China such an influential driver of global demand (both directly and indirectly through important network effects), the outlook for the world s second largest economy has a disproportionate impact on projections of global corporate revenues. And, as China s excessive domestic credit growth and shadow banking system attract increased attention, many companies are becoming anxious.

Following a series of regional stakeholder consultations and expert meetings, the global intergovernmental and multi stakeholder consultation on the fourth report in the Global Environment Outlook series (GEO 4), held in Nairobi on 19 and 20 February 2005, agreed on a statement on the scope, content, key questions and process of the GEO 4 assessment.
