Their possible undocumented status leads to low paying jobs, with no social benefits and lack of access to resources.

The proportion of women employed in low status jobs such as unpaid worker or domestic servant is over 50 per cent and rising.

One striking aspect of this table is the declared intention to find work in administrative jobs, probably in the civil service and carrying low status.

It means that the economy is dividing into high skill, high wage jobs and low skill, low wage jobs and that the middle, the middle skill jobs, and the middle earning jobs, are starting to drop out of the economy.

Sectors in which, traditionally, most women had worked began to receive less funding. Women account for the majority of the unemployed right now, and if women do have jobs, the jobs are in low paying sectors.

The scarce participation of women in salaried work is also explained due to low levels of education, which limits their participation in formal jobs.

Low salaries, low status, and the unwillingness of well educated graduates to work in teaching professions, has resulted in the shortage of qualified teachers, in particular in some specific subjects and in several regions.

Additionally, low salaries of health care personnel, including doctors, has contributed to most of the medical officers leaving or planning to leave the country for better paid jobs abroad.

Employed women have significantly higher educational standards, but this is not reflected in gains in terms of employment, for women with secondary and higher education take low paid jobs.
