The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted many important initiatives introduced by the Government of Thailand to combat trafficking in drugs, poverty and corruption as impediments to development.

After the elections in 2003 there was initially one female minister (Foreign Minister) in the Government (making up 7.1 of the members), a year later there were two (Foreign Minister and Agriculture Minister) (14.2 ).
