The embargo adopted by the European countries also constituted a suspension of Argentina's rights under two sectoral agreements on trade in textiles and trade in mutton and lamb, for which security exceptions of GATT did not apply. It might be argued, however, that such trade restrictions are not an effect of the armed conflict on treaties but rather sanctions imposed on Argentina for its action in the Falklands Islands (Malvinas).
