The Committee notes that three proposed additional P 3 posts of engineering operations officers will be responsible for the day to day oversight and management of the engineering programme and all related support issues in United Nations peacekeeping operations located in Africa, Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

Efficiency gains totalling 5.0 million in areas of management and operations resulting, inter alia, from the implementation of Atlas and business process re engineering.

The staffing of vacancies will enhance efficiency in financial operations and contribute to facilitating the necessary re engineering of some of its processes.

Within the engineering branch, the number of women graduates is higher than the average in chemical engineering and manufacturing (28.6 per cent), environmental engineering (21.2 per cent), civil engineering (20.7 per cent), industrial engineering (19.7 per cent), piscicultural (18.8 per cent) and systems engineering (17.6 per cent).

In addition, eight additional posts are requested for the Rapidly Deployable Mission Headquarters one P 5 (Chief of Staff Operations), six P 4 (Information Officer, Operations Officer, Logistics Officer, Civilian Police Officer, Humanitarian Affairs Officer and Engineering Officer) and one P 3 (Operations Staff Officer).

The Engineering Operations Unit, on the other hand, plans engineering aspects for the creation of new missions, for any required adjustments in the internal support arrangements of field missions following mandate changes and for the drawdown liquidation of reducing closing missions.

The Building Management and Engineering Officer will be responsible for coordinating all engineering and building management works in UNMOT.
