17. As indicated in paragraphs 5 and 7 above, the performance report for the period ending 30 June 1997 shows several efficiency and other management measures that should affect the level of resources required for corresponding items, both in the financial period ending 30 June 1998 and the period ending 30 June 1999.

Training for middle management will be implemented over a two year period ending in 2006.

Resources approved for the period ending 30 June 1998 amounted to 155,000,000 gross ( 150,371,600 net).

6. Expenditures totalling 2,995,200 for the period ending 30 June 1996 were recorded in the period from 1 July 1996 to 30 June 1997.

Actual expenditures totalling 178,400 included an amount of 15,600 relating to the period ending 30 June 1996.

For the period ending 30 June 1998 the General Assembly appropriated 32.4 million for the support account.

The Committee notes that for the period ending 31 December 1995, 66 cases were reported in UNICEF.

7. Expenditures in the reporting period include a total of 432,400 in respect of expenditures in the period ending 30 June 1996 (ibid., para. 7).

Amounts owed to troop contributing Governments for troop costs for the period ending 31 January 1998 total 8,302,500.

For the period ending 30 June 1998, the value of this in kind contribution is estimated at 60,000.

In addition, disbursements in the amount of 35,338 relating to the prior financial period ending 30 June 1996 were recorded under the 1996 97 financial period.

11. The Committee was informed that full reimbursement for troops has been made to troop contributing countries for the period ending 31 December 1997 and that an amount of 6.5 million is owed to troop contributing countries for the period ending 31 August 1998.

The compound annual rate of return for the 45 year period ending 31 March 2005 was 8.6 per cent.

80. Uniform items, flags and decals. Expenditures amounting to 147,000 included 29,500 for the period ending 30 June 1996.

It is estimated that an amount of 7,797,380 is due for troop costs for the period ending January 1998.

18. The total includes certain expenditures, amounting to 537,385, pertaining to the prior financial period, ending 30 June 1996.
