Ping Pong and Political Economy

Is that a good way to play ping pong?

Our team is seeded in the ping pong competition.

Hiroshi Ishii and his group at the MIT Media Lab took a ping pong table and placed a projector above it, and on the ping pong table they projected an image of water with fish swimming in it.

And as you play ping pong, whenever the ball hits part of the table, the ripples spread out and the fish run away.

A rival chapel of their church is doing a boat and bike holiday in Provence, and every afternoon the ether thickens with a ping pong rally of competitive Facebook postings.

And when you touch it, you have to really push very hard to move that anvil across the screen, and yet you touch the ping pong ball very lightly and it just scoots across the screen.

Now, imagine a program where some of those objects are physically heavy and some are light one is an anvil on a fuzzy rug and the other one is a ping pong ball on a sheet of glass.

When Mao Zedong purged his most senior Party boss, Liu Shaoqi, during the Cultural Revolution, Liu s wife was paraded through the streets wearing ping pong balls around her neck as a symbol of wicked decadence and extravagance. After Mao himself died, his wife Jiang Qing was arrested and presented as a Chinese Lady Macbeth.

So, while the child is playing Pong, we are tracking where they're looking.
