E. United Nations Convention on International Bills of Exchange and International Promissory Notes (1988)

The law should provide that the rights of a person who by other law takes rights in a promissory note or negotiable document free of claims to it holder in due course of a promissory note or negotiable document takes such asset free of a security right that is effective against third parties.

These claims were typically for the loss of funds in bank accounts in Kuwait or Iraq or for uncashed cheques or payable promissory notes.

Promissory notes in favour of UNIDO held by the Multilateral Fund for the implementation of the Montreal Protocol to the value of 20,264,334 ( 16,231,732) at 31 December 2003 were encashed during 2004.

2. This Convention does not apply to bills of exchange, promissory notes, consignment notes, bills of lading, warehouse receipts or any transferable document or instrument that entitles the bearer or beneficiary to claim the delivery of goods or the payment of a sum of money.
