On 25 December 1997, the commercial television and radio relaying satellite ASIASAT was launched into an unplanned orbit.

The MOST activity does not interfere with the primary TDRSS mission of relaying commands to and data from scientific spacecraft.

TDRS 1 started relaying data operationally on December 6, 1993, during the shift from its former to its new location, a year from project start.

I welcome your introductory statement to this debate, Mr. President, and in particular the four points you underlined the importance of implementing of the commitments made this year, the importance of building on the momentum achieved this year, the importance of relaying to the world the full story of Africa and the importance of the outcome of the Hong Kong trade talks, to which I shall turn in a moment.
