With 20 billion dollars, everyone can have access to safe drinking water.

The prime responsibility lies with the Governments of the affected countries to ensure safe access.

At the same time, WHO advocated for safe access to health facilities for all Palestinians.

And one of the major gaps in care, almost across the board, is access to safe surgery.

The Committee notes with concern the shortage of access to safe drinking water in highly industrialized areas.

It further reinforces the need for safe and unhindered access by humanitarian actors to populations in need.

UNICEF support to the rehabilitation of systems in the Horn of Africa assisted an additional 2.9 million people to gain access to a safe water source.

In Latin America, about 15 of the population roughly 76 million people do not have access to safe water, and 116 million people do not have access to sanitation services. The figures are worse in Africa and parts of Asia.

In order to save unnecessary pain and suffering it is essential to protect humanitarian space and ensure that humanitarian actors have safe and unimpeded access to vulnerable populations.

The shortfalls are serious, in particular when it comes to child mortality, maternal mortality, the fight against HIV AIDS and access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.

However, in some areas the corrections system continues to be confronted by many problems, relating to access to safe drinking water, adequate health care facilities and medication, availability of rehabilitation programmes, overcrowding, and the high number of detainees without access to legal counsel.

We in Bangladesh have the satisfaction of achieving two Millennium Development Goals already, namely removing gender disparity in primary and secondary schools and ensuring access to safe drinking water.

While the workplan did not address the concerns of all participating States, it was a major step forward in ensuring safe and secure access to outer space for all.

The Committee is also concerned about the fact that a majority of children do not have access to adequate heath services, the high level of malnutrition among children, the lack of access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation, and inadequate breastfeeding practices among women.
