UNEP, through its network of GRID centres, developed the GRID Meta data directory tool to provide both an electronic and hard copy catalogue of worldwide GRID data sources.

And one of the largest fields right now, in the world of energy grids, you hear about the smart grid.

Four of them, GRID Bangkok, GRID Geneva, GRID Nairobi and GRID Sioux Falls, have a UNEP staff presence.

The Meeting noted that all of those regional GRID network centres and other national offices continued to derive policy relevant and value added information.

In cooperation with a network of major institutions holding information on the Arctic environment, GRID will initiate further development of the Directory in 1996.

UNEP capacity building activities are restricted to those institutions which are active in expanding their data and information assessment network serviced by GRID and ENRIN.
