Now a lot of robotics is very impressive, but manipulation robotics is really just in the dark ages.

But let me show you cutting edge robotics.

Robotics systems are just incredible these days, absolutely incredible.

And this is like robotics without wires or motors.

So we're really entering the era of wearable robotics actually.

And now this is the early era of wearable robotics.

Welcome to RoMeLa, the Robotics Mechanisms Laboratory at Virginia Tech.

I'm at Carnegie Mellon we've got a great Robotics Institute there.

And many, many other robotics projects I want to talk about.

Character robotics could plant the seed for robots that actually have empathy.

I took here a model from robotics it's called the Subsumption Architecture.

And we will be bringing robotics of all sorts into the ocean.

We worked with, by the way, Honeybee Robotics. This is the brain.

Robotics had really been about interacting with things, not with people certainly not in a social way that would be natural for us and would really help people accept robots into our daily lives.

There is no generalization at all from one task to another in robotics.

Can we really scale this up? Can we really embed robotics into every part?

And then I started Hanson Robotics, which has been developing these things for mass manufacturing.

But the robotics part is the hardest part. That's the old brain. That's really hard.

At our lab RoMeLa, the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory, we have these fantastic brainstorming sessions.

If you want to go beyond a tinkering, if you want to go beyond a hobby of robotics and really tackle the grand challenges of robotics through rigorous research we need more than that. This is where school comes in.

It also conducts space robotics experiments by using the robot arm installed on the chaser satellite.

So this is the end of a Ph.D. project from one of the best robotics institutes.

So I wish that I could tell you what the future of personal robotics looks like.

Honeybee Robotics designed the Mars Driller, and it was really very much fun to work with them.

So the first thing we're going to do are the things that don't require a lot of robotics.

These are just the awards that we won in 2007 fall from robotics competitions and those kinds of things.

It also brought a new crew member , a German made manipulator robot named Robotics Component Verification on ISS (Rokviss).

The last couple pieces I'm going to show are basically in the new realm of robotics for me, new for me.

There's a whole programming language and robotics tool, so if you want to teach someone how to program, kid, adult, whatever it is.

The purpose of ETS VII is to acquire the basic technologies of rendezvous docking and space robotics that are essential to future space activities.

Recently, the Foundation for Responsible Robotics (FRR) released a report looking at the development of sex robots over the next five to 10 years.

The reason we're so focused on building robots that everyone can train is that we think the most compelling use cases in personal robotics are personal.

The future of personal robotics is happening today, and it's going to depend on small, agile robots like Romo and the creativity of people like yourselves.

In the face of difficult budget decisions, the Canadian government has continued to recognize its responsibility for developing the Mobile Servicing System, which will provide external Space Station robotics.

According to Noel Sharkey, emeritus professor of robotics and artificial intelligence at the University of Sheffield and co founder of the FRR, we need to start taking their rise seriously.

And we look at these exponential technologies from medicine, biotech, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, space, and address how can we cross train and leverage these to impact major unmet goals.

Lee acknowledged previous U.S. government technology competitions like the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Robotics Challenge and asked when the next one would be, in order to help identify the next visionaries.
