St. Helena, St. Helena Dependencies South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

South Georgia, located about 1,300 kilometres south east of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) group, and the South Sandwich Islands, located about 750 kilometres east south east of South Georgia, are administered from the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) as a separate Territory the Governor of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) acts as Commissioner for South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

The Argentine Government reiterates its inalienable rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime zones.

In the case of the South Ossetian conflict in Georgia, we have a similar situation.

The Parliament of Georgia condemns the recent developments in the conflict regions existing on the territory of Georgia (Abkhazia, and the former South Ossetian Autonomous District).

11. It should be pointed out that in the South Atlantic, the colonial status of the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich islands persists, affecting the territorial integrity of Argentina.

The United Kingdom has no doubts about its sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.

In this regard I have to inform the Security Council of the resolution of the parliament of Georgia, adopted on 11 October 2005, regarding the Russian peacekeepers in Georgia, both in the Tskhinvali region former South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Just yesterday the Georgian Prime Minister aired a detailed plan of conflict resolution in another separatist region of Georgia Tskhinvali region former South Ossetia.

Argentina, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, China, Cyprus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Georgia, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, South Africa, Uzbekistan.

The principle of self determination did not apply to the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), South Georgia Islands or South Sandwich Islands, Territories which belonged to Argentina the population had been established there by the occupying Power.

Today, a day marking 165 years of that illegal occupation, the Argentine people and Government reaffirm the Argentine Republic s rights of sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and their surrounding maritime areas.
