So, it's tens of millions of calculations just to design one connection between a piece of structural steel and another piece of structural steel.

Wire drawn products and seamless pipes are also part of the long steel products group.

Thin flat products find end use applications in automotive body panels, domestic white goods products, tin cans and a range of other everyday products containing steel. A long steel product is a rod, bar or section.

Consumption of finished steel is smaller than production of crude steel due to losses in production of finished products (the discarded material is recycled).

In the recent past, the prices of these products have increased faster than steel prices.

Semi finished products are steel shapes (blooms, billets or slabs) that are later rolled into finished products such as beams bars or sheet.

Thus, steel products as a group were less dynamic than world exports but slightly more dynamic than commodities.

However, several other developing countries, mainly medium or high income ones, have been able to build steel industries that are competitive on world markets and export significant quantities of steel products.

Experts noted that the world steel industry was currently enjoying a boom period, with very high prices for all steel products and hence in spite of high input prices record profits.

However, since steel trade consists of trade in a large number of different steel products, the global figure may considerably understate the impact of Chinese exports and, particularly, imports on individual markets.

Still, in the case of some schemes, products of particular export interest to developing countries (e.g. textiles, clothing, footwear, watches, and certain electronic, steel and glass products) are either not covered or enjoy less favourable treatment than other less sensitive products.

Crude steel is used to produce semi finished and finished products destined for internal consumption as inputs for further processing or for sale.

So, in vacuum formed plastic, in fiberglass, and then even at the level of structural steel, which you think of as being linear and modular.

Alloyed steels account for a relatively small portion of all finished steel products, and their production and use are concentrated in developed countries and China.

Growing world consumption of finished steel products was largely driven by the growth of demand in Asia, particularly in China, and, to a lesser extent, India.
