We pledge to promote environmentally sound and sustainable natural resources management, including the implementation of integrated land management, sustainable forest management programmes and water use plans and the use of traditional and indigenous knowledge and practices as well as modern technologies of sustainable resource use and management.

While integrated water resource management provides an integrated framework for addressing water issues, countries will want to tailor integrated water resources management plans to their own particular water management needs and objectives.

Activities related to sustainable land use management and especially water management are mentioned in practically all the reports and concern virtually all affected African country Parties and their subregional organizations, thus reflecting the priority given to water by developed country Parties.

Through its Sustainable Development and Productivity Division, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia pursues an integrated approach to sustainable management of water, energy and other resources and production sectors.

The link between environmentally sustainable water management and poverty reduction is critical and must be prioritized to ensure that appropriate action is taken.
