We live in in a remarkable time, the age of genomics.

But remember, I'm not pushing genomics, proteomics, to be a reductionist.

Also, at Synthetic Genomics, we've been working on major environmental issues.

I first met him through the Archon X PRIZE for Genomics.

First, I'm going to try to give you a different perspective of genomics.

Let me say that again A single genomics company generates more data in a month, on a compound basis, than is in the printed collections of the Library of Congress.

Similarly, the example of the Beery twins shows us that an alternative to symptom based medicine can be realized the advent of genomics technology can change not just what is known, but, more importantly, how we think of ourselves.

DALIAN, CHINA Last week, a company called Complete Genomics announced 10 new customers for its genome sequencing service. The price was not specified, but the company said its goal is to offer the service for 5,000 within a year.

In the vaccine area, Synthetic Genomics and the Institute are forming a new vaccine company because we think these tools can affect vaccines to diseases that haven't been possible to date, things where the viruses rapidly evolve, such with rhinovirus.

Today s transformational advances in health care owe much to new genomics information, to the availability of big data to influence decisions in real time, to more targeted and individualized therapies, and to smarter, more connected delivery systems. But they are just the beginning.

Given that most of the technologies are beyond the reach of poor developing countries, the Working Group called for a governance mechanism that strikes a balance between the global public goods nature of genomics knowledge and the private goods nature of its application.

The most exciting prospect held out by Venter, however, is a form of algae that can absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to create diesel fuel or gasoline. Synthetic Genomics has a 600 million agreement with ExxonMobil to obtain fuel from algae.
