Upper secondary level, years 12 and 13 2 years

There were 65 upper secondary schools with 18,000 students.

The secondary schools intermediate and upper secondary schools accept pupils as of grades 5 and 6 (orientation level) and teach them up to grade 10 in intermediate secondary schools and up to grade 13 in upper secondary schools.

There is a Sorbian upper secondary school in Bautzen (upper Sorbian) and one in Cottbus (lower Sorbian).

About 2,500 adults attend evening classes for upper secondary schooling.

Upper secondary education includes a baccalaureate level and technical vocational education.

Two other upper secondary schools in Hoyerswerda offer classes to learn Sorbian.

According to article 15 of Act No. 80 1996 on upper secondary schools all students who fulfil the entrance requirements have the right to begin studies at an upper secondary school.

The schools are primary and general secondary schools, four intermediate secondary schools and one upper secondary school, one boarding school and an adult education boarding school.

468. The Greenland Home Rule government offers upper secondary education in pursuance of DA No. 431 of 13 June 1990 concerning upper secondary education, etc. and GPR No. 108 of 17 February 1992.

There are three levels of secondary education, and its completion, officially certified, is a requirement for entry to upper secondary education.

The drop out rate of boys from basic schools and upper secondary schools is higher.

At the general upper secondary level, it caters for 6 per cent of the pupils.

The new curricula for the upper secondary school is also expected to take effect in 1998.

There is a general access to higher education for students holding an upper secondary school leaving examination.

The school appropriations for upper secondary schools, higher education and student loans are approximately 8.6 per cent of the national budget.

The proportion of women is the highest among the graduates of upper secondary schools, but also in diploma, Bachelor's, and Master's studies.

Enrolment in secondary schools is made on the basis of an open competition and enrolment a qualification exam in June and an additional August enrolment term.

Upper secondary education is an excellent level at which to demonstrate what human rights are and the manner in which they are protected.

347. In 1992 93 96 per cent of all young men continued in general upper secondary education or vocational education after basic school.
