The Combating of Rape Act provides for stiff minimum sentences for rapists.

The previous law on rape in Namibia contributed to marital rape (a man raping his wife) and rape of people other than women, because these crimes were legally defined not as rape, but as indecent assault (Iipinge and LeBeau 1997 80).
